Aging is a natural process of life and no one person can escape it. As of the age of 25 the brain starts to deteriorate, as it begins to dwindle in mass and volume.

Nonetheless, maintaining the brain’s most important tissue – Grey matter – could be accomplished through meditation, according to a new study at the University of California in LA. Grey matter is a major component of the central nervous system, consisting of neuronal cell bodies, neuropil, glial cells and capillaries. It contains most of the brain’s neuronal cell bodies.

In the study, the research team compared 50 participants who had years of experience in meditation against 50 more who had none in order to understand the relationship between age and Grey matter.

Participants ranged in age from 24 to 77 and each group consisted of 28 men and 22 women.

In the group that consisted of people who meditated, the average amount of experience was 20 years and the most experienced among them had been doing so for 46 years.

The research team captured the state of participants’ brains using scans taken with high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology and found that gray matter declines with age, although less so for those who meditate.

This is why it is important to take time for oneself and practice meditation. Meditation will allow you to get in touch with yourself, whilst, helping you to remain young. Also, it is important to do it correctly, that is why I encourage readers to begin their first meditations with a teacher. The guidance you will receive in your first few sessions will serve you for the rest of your life and you will quickly be able to put it into practice on your own.

Have you notice your breath when you are tired? It is short, it feels like there is not more air to breath. Every action has a reaction, in this case because you are tired you are breathless or should i say because your breath is not smooth and deep you become tired?
In the same way imagine using the breath to make you feel with more energy, less tired, and more relax.
In our meditation yoga and digital detox retreats in Spain, we will teach you some techniques to keep your ability to breath easy and normal.
